Dusty Wants You: Crew a Rally

Lake Superior Performance Rally is coming up, and we are in need of a couple supplemental crew members for the event, preferably people who think rally cars, and working on rally cars, is cooler than snapchatting (this would be a drastic change from the crew we had at the last event).

The rally is October 15 and 16 in Houghton, Michigan. You would need to be there for the full duration of the 14-16 (so need to arrive late on the 13th at the latest and stay until the morning of the 17th). Prior experience isn’t necessary, but a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and willingness to do what the crew chief tells you with a minumum of complaining (or laziness) is. Having your own tools is a bonus.

As for compensation, you will be provided full lodging and meals, as well as gas money (to an extent, we can’t compensate someone who decides to drive from Miami) and a daily wage. Last year was fine because I was on a different team, but the guys we brought to Minnesota last month (all the way from Tennessee) were a couple lazy idiot kids who were literally more interested in Snapchat than the rally. When told to carry the fuel cans to the refuel depot, like every team needs to do so they can refuel their race car, they said they didn’t want to because it was too heavy and making them do it was unfair.

My thing isn’t so much the distance but doing it around school, by myself, in a car with 140,000mi. It would really suck to have something go wrong 6 hrs away from school when I need to be back the next day. When I have a bit more leeway I am open to longer trips, just not when I have to be marathoning home. Heck I would be open to STPR since I don’t have to worry about getting back the very next day and can give myself an extra day off on the back end.

The funny/sad thing is they’re planning on going to one of the major automotive trade schools (WyoTech I think) and they’re convinced they’ll be able to up and land a job in a major race shop after. Not without motorsports experience, and certainly not with that attitude.
